Spring in the Rockies

The Lodge at Spruce Creek

The Lodge at Spruce Creek All Inclusive Western Colorado Lodge Retreat Escape HoneymoonSpringtime in the Rockies, at The Lodge at Spruce Creek, located in Rifle, Colorado, is a welcome time after the long, cold, snowy winter season.  The grass greens up quickly in the pastures, even as the snow still clings to the shady north facing mountain slopes. It is one of nature’s beautiful contradictions to witness.  The newborn Black Angus calves frolic next to their mothers, happy too, that winter is relinquishing its hold on land.  The snowmobiles get tucked away for the year and the ATV’s (four wheelers) are dusted off, as they now become an integral part of the day-to-day ranch activities.  The horses start to lose their wooly winter coats, get new shoes and are ready to start working again. The frozen days of winter are over, and the rebirth of spring has begun.

Some of the “on campus” included activities during the spring time (weather pending) include:

  • Riding ATV’s on the 160 acre ranch (helmuts included)
  • Horseshoes
  • Volleyball
  • Hiking and Walking Trails
  • During some of the Spring months, learn to “Buck Bales’ and be a “Hired Hand” (i.e. get up early and get your morning work out in… by feeding the cows and newborn calves their breakfast) load the feed truck by bucking hay bales and learn how to get you “sea legs” as you toss the hay to the hungry herd.
